Beth Nathan from North Briarcliff Civic Association , the
neighborhood association on the South side of I-85 along
Shallowford and Ursula Lentine from DECA have been
meeting for over two years with a handful of faithful
neighbors to work on a plan for Shallowford Road – Now they
need YOUR input to make the plan a reality.
Dear Neighbors,
It’s time to step up and include your voice, you are needed and
wanted, yes, even you, the quiet ones who don’t usually
participate in anything, we need you now!
When: Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m. to noon
Where: St Pius High School is opening their doors to host us.
What: Discover what would be an ideal neighborhood from
many points of view
Who: We need input from EVERYONE:
different cultures, age groups, genders,
orientations, ethnicities, interests. We
definitely need all different people – it
doesn’t matter if you never thought of
anything like this, you don’t do well in
groups, you are not a visionary, or you can’t
speak English very well, just come.
Why: To put a plan in place for our
designated “Neighborhood Center” (see
map) so developers don’t come in and make
a mess of our area. We can actually create
something wonderful if we want to, now is
our chance.
TABASCO is the grass roots group that
was started a few years ago to clean up the
Shallowford area of our neighborhood. Do
you remember how bad it was at the gas
stations and the Chicken Plaza? Neighbors
didn’t even want to pull in there. A small
group of us worked very hard with the
police, shop owners and county officials to
do something about it and sure enough we
made a difference.
Now we are looking down the road, pun
intended, and seeing that we are a prime
target for development along Shallowford.
As of now, anyone can come in and build
just about anything, as they did with
Dresden Heights. No one asked us if it
would be okay to knock down our highway
buffer and build townhomes looking over
the freeway.
If you have been aware of other parts of
town, the developers come in and then the
neighbors have to complain and fight. We
see this and ask you, wouldn’t it be smarter
and easier if we decide what we want first? Once we set up our
list of desires, the county holds on to them and any developer
that comes around will see that we have our own ideas about our
wants and needs and what will effect our property value in the
best way. If he has an idea to build storage units, he will likely
just move on to another neighborhood that is not proactive.
We are so happy to announce that we finally have a chance at
doing this. This is important, be a part of history! Please join in,
we need you!
WE NEED A GOOD TURNOUT
Please email ursula4usa@gmail.com to let me know you can
come.
