Peachtree Dekalb Airport (PDK)

DeKalb Peachtree Airport

By Mike Van Wie A.A.E., Airport Director

(June 2013)

DeKalb Peachtree Airport, owned and operated by DeKalb county, is often simply referred to by its FAA identifier “PDK.”  PDK is designated by the FAA as a general aviation reliever airport for the Atlanta Metropolitan area, reducing congestion for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) by providing a facility for general aviation aircraft.

The term "general aviation" encompasses the entire spectrum of aircraft and aircraft related businesses and services including the most sophisticated corporate & business jets, aircraft charters, training aircraft, helicopters, aircraft maintenance and refurbishment, and personal aircraft used for business and recreational purposes.

With an average of nearly 425 takeoffs and landing per day in 2012, PDK is the second busiest airport in Georgia surpassed only by ATL.  PDK’s location, close to the business centers of downtown Atlanta, Buckhead, and Perimeter Center, make it the airport of choice for corporate and business aircraft visiting the metropolitan area.

PDK plays a vital role in supporting the region’s economy.  As a financially self-sufficient enterprise fund of the County, PDK benefits the local & the regional economy in a number of important ways without using any general tax funds.

In addition to the direct employment created on the airport property, there are the indirect benefits of visitors being attracted to the area, travel and operating cost savings for area businesses and the jobs which are attracted to the County specifically because of the airport.

According to the Statewide Economic Impact Study for Airports commissioned by the Georgia Department of Transportation (2010 data) there are a total of 1,834 jobs, with a total payroll of $67.3 million, directly attributable to PDK.  The study goes on to report that the total value of the goods and services related to the airport exceeds $211.7 million.

DECA Purchases A Commemorative Brick For The Aviation Park

Angel Flight Logo
The DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is the home of Georgia's only aviation park and playground! Children's imaginations are clear for take-off while sitting on the runway of "PDK II," a mini-airport that is the focal point of the park. The goal of Angel Flight, a nonprofit located at PDK airport, was to build a place to enjoy for the 'plane' fun of it, and all those dreams came true.

In 2016, DECA made our mark by purchasing a $100 commemorative brick in honor of those who have contributed to DECA over the years, our neighborhood and our community. Our donation will help Angel Flight make hope soar for hundreds of families in need of lifesaving medical treatment.

How is the level of activity at the airport measured? How busy is the airport?
Activity levels at airports are measured by aircraft operations. An operation is defined by the FAA as a takeoff or a landing. So, a "touch and go" conducted by a training aircraft counts as two operations. In terms of takeoffs and landings, the PDK Airport is the second busiest airport in Georgia.

Do you have an airline flight to...?
No. The DeKalb Peachtree Airport does not have scheduled airline flights. We are a reliever airport to Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson International airport, which is the primary airline airport for the area and the busiest commercial service airport in the world. We do have charter companies that can take you around the world on your schedule. Check our business listings section for contact info.

Where do I go to pick up a passenger?
Because PDK does not offer scheduled passenger service, there is no centralized passenger terminal. Businesses or charter companies flying into the airport often drop passengers off at one of the Fixed Base Operators (FBO) located on the field. Please check the business listings section for more information about our FBOs.

How do I learn to fly?
PDK has a number of flight schools that would love to help you learn to fly. Visit our business listings section to arrange for an introductory flight in a fixed-wing or helicopter!!

Can I fly out of PDK if I don't own an airplane? It's so close to my house.
Absolutely. Our charter companies are more than willing to take you anywhere you like. Visit our business listings section for more information on these services.

What rental car companies operate at PDK?
Hertz and Enterprise both have locations on the airport. Please arrange for the rental of any vehicle with these companies through the FBO. Or, if you like, contact a rental car provider and let them know where you would like the car delivered here on the PDK Airport.

What are the names of the restaurants located on the airfield now?
We have two (2) restaurants at the airport:
The Downwind Restaurant located at the center of the airport (770-452-0972); and,
The 57th Fighter Group located very near the taxiways and runways (770-234-0057).
Check the Business Listings section or our airport website for more information, times of operation, menus, etc.

Every month, noise reports are posted to the PDK website, The site also provides annual summary reports.
